POLAND: 5 Battle of Rawa

5 Battle of Rawa

 (Rules: Arras to Ardennes)

Battle Turn Zero and Start

The wall of blinds going down masked the German grouping of the battlegroup on their right centre.  The Poles were in trenches forward of the treeline with a clear field of fire and with the tanks in the front line.

Battle Turn One

The first battalion advanced on the right of the road and promptly put pressure on the Polish infantry.  3rd Tank advanced directly to their front and promptly ran into the Polish tanks.  The defences proved deeply illusionary and in the combat that followed the Polish tanks unit was put to flight.  At the same time the advance of the second battalion overcame the Polish infantry defenders and a hole was torn in the defences.

In the picture on the left one Polish company has retreated from their trenches into the woods, in the centre the German tank companies are advancing screened by reconnaissance that is facing off against the Polish 3rd Battalion reconnaissance unit; 2ndInfantry has already pushed back the Polish infantry through the front line of woods into the second line.

Battle Turn 2

The German attack on their right flank has pushed the Polish infantry back to the rear areas.  In the centre the German tanks and infantry have broken through and overrun the reserves, putting the Polish troops to flight or to the rear lines.  Meanwhile the 4thTank Battalion has engaged the remaining Polish troops to pin them in place.

End

The Polish position was untenable.  The battle had much more time to run yet the Germans had already ripped a huge hole in the Polish defences   The right flank still held and the village objective was still held by a lone Polish company but the German units were rampaging through the centre and left; further objectives would fall.  It was all over.

The Germans scored 1VP for the LoC opened through the centre, 1VP for the Supply Depot and IVP for the Command Post, giving them a maximum advance.  Further objectives were available and the battle was only half complete; it was evident that the Germans had reached Warsaw ahead of timetable.
